About Me

My Background

As a military veteran I have experienced the challenges which coincide with transitioning into a new career. I am passionate about assisting fellow veterans and other individuals with disabilities learn coping skills and discover new career opportunities.
I am currently enrolled in the Rehabilitation Counseling program at Maryville University where I am gaining the skills to assist in the best way possible for my future clients.

Rehab Scope of Practice Statement

I identify as a rehabilitation counselor with a focus in vocational rehabilitation. This means I strive to assist individuals with disabilities discover employment opportunities to increase their ability to live independently while also increasing their overall quality of life.

Rehabilitation counseling is a systematic process which assists persons with physical, mental, developmental, cognitive, and emotional disabilities to achieve their personal, career, and independent living goals in the most integrated setting possible through the application of the counseling process. The counseling process involves communication, goal setting, and beneficial growth or change through self-advocacy, psychological, vocational, social, and behavioral interventions. The specific techniques and modalities utilized within this rehabilitation counseling process may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessment and appraisal;

  • Diagnosis and treatment planning;

  • Career (vocational) counseling;

  • Individual and group counseling treatment interventions focused on facilitating adjustments to the medical and psychosocial impact of disability;

  • Case management, referral, and service coordination;

  • Program evaluation and research;

  • Interventions to remove environmental, employment, and attitudinal barriers;

  • Consultation services among multiple parties and regulatory systems;

  • Job analysis, job development, and placement services, including assistance with employment and job accommodations; and

  • Provision of consultation about and access to rehabilitation technology.

Clinical Experiences

Internship-Centerpointe Hospital                                                                     AUGUST 2019 – March 2020
Co-Facilitate and facilitate group therapy sessions for individuals with mental health concerns, individuals with chemical dependency history, and individuals with co-occurring disorders. Responsible for keeping up-to-date electronic and physical records for individual clients. Provide crisis intervention, providing additional information and referrals as needed. Assist patients in meeting their bio-psychosocial needs while enabling them to gain/improve skills needed to achieve their optimal level of emotional health.


Practicum- Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services                              JANUARY 2019 – APRIL 2019
Assisted with daily client interactions for various rehabilitation services. Assisted in client preparation, conducted initial interviews, and reviewed client files for certification of rehabilitation services.  Assisted in the creation and maintenance of case notes for electronic client files.

The purpose of this project was to research, describe, and identify common limitations, and possible vocational impediments of individuals with chronic pain.

Transitional Peer Mentoring Program for Women Veterans
and the Impact on Life Satisfaction

The purpose of this project was to create a program and form a hypothetical study for a population of interest.

Effects of Holding Soft vs Hard Objects on Performance of a Complex Task

The purpose of this project was to create a study with experimental conditions analyzing an area of interest and determine whether there were any differences within the separate conditions.
